The 10K Run is open to all 12 and over.  If under 12 years of age, permission must be granted by the Race Director at (Email: Get in Gear Race Director). 

The 5K Run/Walk and 2K Fun Run are open to all ages.

Race Number Pick-Up   (Back to top)

All corporate participants will pick up their race numbers individually and meet at their designated signage behind the Pavilion near the waterfalls on race day morning.  Look for company name in alphabetical order.  Some team captains will pick up team race numbers on Friday but race numbers will not be grouped by company and will need to be picked up individually.  Planning in advance and notification to your team members will be necessary

Race Numbers Pick-up at Minnehaha Park Pavilion, Friday, April 28, from Noon - 8:00 pm. Race numbers may be picked up by a friend or family member during this time. 

Get in Gear will absorb the cost of parking in the park on Friday, April 28, for people picking up their race numbers. Two parking lots on the north side of the Pavilion (approximately 250 parking spots) are “free” to our participants beginning at Noon. Please note that parking is NOT allowed in the bus circle and that the parking spots adjacent to the Pavilion (west side and on Old Minnehaha) are not part of the paid parking for the day.

Mail-In /On-Line Registrants: Race numbers will be ready for pick-up by Noon on Friday, April 28. It is allowable to pick up someone else' race numbers.  

For those from out of town, a limited number of race numbers will be allowed to be picked up on race day beginning at 7:00 a.m. No race day registration. Please prepare to be on-site one hour before your race starts to pick up your race numbers and prepare for the race.  There may be long lines and the races will start on time.

You are strongly encouraged to pick up your race numbers on Friday to avoid being late for the start of the race on Saturday morning.

Parking, FREE Shuttle Info and Lightrail Options  (Back to top)

Parking Notice - VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE!  There is NO PARKING allowed at Minnehaha Park on event morning. Vehicles are subject to being ticketed if parked in a "no parking area."

BE EARLY!!!  Traffic can, and will be, congested in and around the VAMC and Minnehaha Park the morning of the Get in Gear events.

Bus Shuttle runs continuously from the VAMC to Minnehaha Park pavilion in a continuous loop from 54th St. to South Minnehaha Ave. and North to the “new” bus drop and pick-up area at the back of the pavilion until 12:15 pm.  Riders will take a short walk across the falls to the Pavilion.  You will find restrooms inside the pavilion (but also we have 47 porta-potties on the venue for your use) and the Information Tent and Volunteer Check-In Tent will be on the immediate north side of the Pavilion.  We cannot allow dogs on the bus without proper pre-authorization.

NOTE:  VAMC is under construction for a new parking ramp.  There is no access to Get in Gear parking from One Veteran’s Drive (the main entrance).  All entrance will be from 54th which you can access from Hwy. 55 (Hiawatha Ave.)  Event Parking signage will be placed on the roads to help direct you.  There is parking for approximately 1500 vehicles this year.  If the lot fills you will be re-directed.  Arrive early.

There is no parking at Minnehaha Park.  Plan accordingly.

FREE Shuttle: 6:45a.m. start to 12:30pm or when buses are no longer needed.  This will be determined by our bus coordinator on race day. Get in Gear is providing a FREE shuttle service which will begin at the VAMC (Veterans Affairs Medical Center web site or Veterans Affairs Medical Center web site map).

The VAMC is located approximately one mile south of Minnehaha Park on Minnehaha Avenue (Junction of Hwy. 55 & 62). 

VAMC address: 1 Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Look for directional signs on race morning.  Incoming vehicles to the VAMC will be directed to designated Get in Gear parking area by VAMC personnel.

Participants will then be taken by designated buses directly to Minnehaha Park.  Buses will be ready for return to VAMC AFTER the buses have completed dropping participants off for their race.  The distance between the VAMC and Minnehaha Park is one mile. You may plan to jog or walk as an alternative one way or two way option.

Metro Transit/Light Rail

Metro Transit for the Minneapolis Metro area includes stations that are located both at the VA Medical Center (VA Medical Center Station) and 46th Street (46th Street Station). For more detailed information and schedules, go to http://www.metrotransit.org/light-rail.aspx

The light rail has become very popular with our runners. Some runners coming from the south park at the Mall of America station and take the light rail to the 46th Street Station near the race start.

 

Clothing Baggage Drop Pre-Race   (Back to top)
(Race Day Only)

Signage for the drop bag location will be visible on race morning and volunteers ready to navigate you.  Our Information Tent also has grounds layout information if needed. 

We will have bags available to place your belongings and identify by name and/or bib number from 6:30-9:00a.m.  If you bring a bag it may be subject to brief inspection but it is preferred you use our drop bags.  Please – no large duffle bags.

The drop bags are meant to hold light belongings and non-valuable items.  We have not had theft issues but we do not recommend highly valuable items are left in your bags that we cannot be responsible for.

 

Food - Friday & Saturday  (Back to top)

Friday, April 28, from Noon to 8:00pm:  There will be free sample products from some our partner sponsors including milk, juice, fresh salted nut roll samples and other various items.
 
Saturday, Race Day:  Post race refreshments will be available at the covered bandstand in the park and will include bananas, yogurt, race rolls, white and chocolate milk, orange juice and other refreshing post-race food items.
 

Water  (Back to top)

A total of 1 water stop for the 10K and 5 water stops for the Half Marathon are on the course:

All of the Get in Gear water stations are managed by one of our charitable donation recipient teams.  We invite your feedback once the race is completed.

A water stop (with porta-pottie) will be located at the 5K mark of the 10K.  Water only at this stop. 
 
There is no water stop for the 2K or the 5K.
 
If additional water is needed we advise carrying your own to re-fill at the water stations.
 
Pre and Post Race Water:
Water tables are set up for both pre and post race at Minnehaha Park near the start/finish area in the park.
 
 

Exhibitor Expo - Friday & Saturday  (Back to top)

On both Friday and Saturday there will be a variety of running industry related exhibitors to visit.  We will announce them as we approach spring.

Safety   (Back to top)

For the safety of your fellow participants, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards and dogs are not allowed on the race course.

Walkers and strollers are welcome in our 5K only, but will need to start at the back. Though strollers/joggers are allowed on the 5K course, the road closure timeline is still enforced. See Strollers.

Get in Gear offers a FREE two-way shuttle bus to Minnehaha Park.  VAMC personnel will direct traffic in the parking lot and will monitor the parking lot throughout the morning until the shuttle service is completed.  This is a self-service bus shuttle whereas you board the bus, get dropped off at Minnehaha Park and there you will have any questions answered that you may not already know.  This shuttle is also available to non-running spectators and fans.

 

Race and Volunteer T-Shirts  (Back to top)
(Available both on Friday at race numbers pick-up and Race Day)

If it is race morning you may pick up your shirt either before or after your race.
 

Technical Performance Shirts:  All registrants in the 10K, 5K, and Half Marathon will receive a quality technical performance shirt as part of their registration fee.  These shirts are gender specific in sizing and a sizing.

Volunteers and 2k participants receive a shirt.

 

Satellites/Bathrooms   (Back to top)

There will be a minimum of 47 portable toilets, including a handicapped portable toilet, located in Minnehaha Park in addition to the mens/women's bathrooms located in the Pavilion. 
 
 

Post Race Festivities  (Back to top)

Once you finish your race there will be chocolate milk available to re-fuel at the finish line as well as water and a fabulous post-race food buffet under the bandstand. 

You are invited to get a free post-run massage, get your warm-ups from the pre-run bag drop in the Pavilion and enjoy some time at the park visiting with the various exhibitors and perhaps taking in a view of Minnehaha Falls before you leave. 

Results will be posted on our website by mid-afternoon and all awards will be sent no later than two weeks post-race guaranteed.

Music: There will be music playing throughout the morning at the park for your enjoyment.
