Saturday, April 29, 2017

2K: 6:00 PM Friday, April 28

Greetings Participants Past and Present:

We are hard at work on all things logistics for the Get in Gear events less than 100 days away!

Some fun facts on our current registrations of 2000 registrants:

  • Average age:  40  (Youngest:  3/Oldest: 90)
  • Largest current Male Age Group:  55-59
  • Largest current Female Age Group:  35-39
  • Percentage of male entrants to female entrants:  42% male/ 58% female
  • 18 US States and 3 Countries represented in our database

We want to remind you of a few things that can be done now to help us make this event the best it can be for you:

  • In the next couple of weeks you should be receiving a "save the date" postcard in your mail. Please share it with others that have not yet been able to be a part of our awesome “Rite of Spring.”
  • Our 2K fun run has successfully been held on Friday at 6:00p.m. and we anticipate it continues to be a growing and fun event. Remember that parents that register for any of our Saturday events only pay $10 for a 2K registration. We are investing in the future of our sport with our 2K kids and are thrilled to do so.
  • Just a reminder that fees will increase by $5 on February 1st so register now if you want the savings. The fees will remain the same for all of February and March before the next April 1 increase. We also have a great bargain on either a Get in Gear black fleece pullover or a blue track jacket that you can purchase with your registration, as an option, for $14.95 while supplies last. Free with your registration you will receive a great looking gender specific tech shirt with a commemorative 40th anniversary design, a specially designed headwrap (much like a Buff) and a custom medal as you cross the finish line of all of our events. The Get in Gear has lower fees than average, in the industry, and you are provided with a very well organized and long-standing local homegrown event that has now reached four decades of growth and changing times. We are proud to be a Minnesota local event and count on the support of our community and runners to continue to make this your Annual Rite of Spring.
  • Now is the time to start your corporate teams. If you are part of an active company, or want your company to be active, consider being a team captain and organizing a team for our Corporate Get in Gear. The minimum number of corporate employees per team is five. This opportunity is free of charge to start a team and one of the many perks is separate awards to only our corporate division of results. This will be our second year of offering a Corporate Challenge Award division which will award not only our individual corporate placers but also the corporation as a whole with a designated award for fastest team and most participation by percentage. Check out our web page showing the 2016 Corporate Challenge winners. Part of the winnings is 5 free entries for the next year year’s event.
  • All registrations by March 15th will include your personalized name bib which is taken from the name fields on your online registration form.
  • Our annual food drive with our partner Second Harvest Heartland will take place on both Friday and Saturday this year so remember to bring some non-perishables for our collection bins. We will also match any donations, dollar for dollar, in our mutual fight against child hunger. Each dollar donated is turned into $8 worth of food. You will have the option to make a donation when you register for our event.   To date a total of $130,000.00 has been donated to Second Harvest Heartland and we are very proud of that collaborative effort with our participants.
  • Our 5th Annual Shoe Drive, in collaboration with World Soles will take place on both Friday and Saturday, April 28-29. Start a collection in your homes, neighborhood or workplace now for a donation drop off at our event. It has been fun to see the developing mountain of shoes grow as donations arrive.
  • We are always looking for skilled volunteer groups that receive a fundraising stipend of $500 while volunteering for the Get in Gear events. Consider this opportunity and contact us if you are interested. It is a wonderful and fun way to be a part of our community of runners. Currently we are looking for one group to be a Water Station Team on our new Half Marathon course. Contact the office if interested or need more information.
  • The Get in Gear team is also looking for more team members to be a part of our Get in Gear family. If you have time to dedicate to a couple of team meetings, be part of our race week events and have a passion for working with a dedicated group of volunteers that make it happen for our participants, please contact us at giginfo@getingearevents.com with your request.  There is always a need for committed and reliable team leaders that love the sport and want to give back.

We will send out monthly logistic details to those that register for the event moving forward. Please make the Get in Gear a part of your spring running schedule as we are sure you won’t regret it.

Feel free to contact us with questions at giginfo@getingearevents.com for a timely response or call our office hotline at 651-528-8284; and if we can't answer, your call will be returned - we guarantee it! You can also become one of our fans on Facebook!

We are so looking forward to Friday and Saturday, April 28-29, for our 40th Annual Rite of Spring! Please join us!
